Look at the whole bill
When we consider new spending, I want residents to see what it means for their household. Property taxes, utilities and regional charges all come out of the same pocket. We need to keep that in mind when we make decisions.
Priority 01 of 04
Our tax increases for residents and businesses are out of control. With the mill down and so much of our industrial tax base gone, we have to change direction.
My position
The loss of the mill has shifted more of the burden onto residents and local businesses. They cannot keep absorbing increases like this. That is not sustainable.
We should be reviewing all City-owned land to see how it can help stabilize our taxation base. I want us to look at what responsible development could contribute year after year, and what that would mean for the people already paying the bills.

We have land that could help us through the loss of the mill. I want Council to review those opportunities carefully. The question is how we use what we have to build a lasting tax base and take some pressure off residents and businesses.
We still have roads, water, sewer and public safety to pay for. We need to plan that work, question the cost and make choices we can afford. At the same time, we have to bring more investment and activity back to Powell River.
We cannot keep asking the same residents and businesses to carry more. We have to rebuild the tax base that helps pay for this community.Explore the other priorities
